10 tips for springtime dewy skin

Spring has almost sprung and it's time to kiss the winter skin blues goodbye. Here are 10 tips to get rid of dull, leathery skin and welcome back your baby-soft glow!
TIP
1

Scrub away leathery skin

There's nothing better than a good scrub to get rid of skin-dulling dead cells that suffocate the epidermis. Give your face and body a weekly, gentle, tip to toe scrub. Apply it using circular movements, paying attention to any rough areas such as your heels, elbows and knees.

The result?

Velvety-soft, glowing skin! It's an essential step if you want your skin to be properly sun-prepped!

TIP
2

Deeply moisturise

As the mercury rises, our pores dilate and our skin dries out. So slather on the moisturiser, particularly after a scrub, so that your skin feels deliciously comfortable and supple. Religiously moisturise your face and eye contours morning and night with a suitable product: anti-ageing, anti-wrinkle, brightening, mattifying, nourishing, anti-age spot...

TIP
3

Buff up your body

Our bodies also need hydrating, particularly if we want to show off a bit of flesh. Apply a body lotion or dry oil morning and night for baby-soft caressable limbs. If your skin's really parched, opt for a body balm or butter. Apply it for a few weeks to deeply nourish and moisturise your skin.

TIP
4

Dig out the sunscreen

We need to protect ourselves from UV rays all year long, but spring and summer are the worst offenders. Whether you're stomping across fields, having a glass or two on a sunny terrace or simply soaking up the sun, protect your skin with an SPF 30 (minimum) sunscreen and invest in a day or BB cream that contains a filter. It'll keep liver spots at bay and slow down signs of ageing.

TIP
5

Pamper your mitts

Winter's harsh weather often leaves us with sore, chapped hands. Time for some TLC! Apply a fine grain scrub once a month, moisturise them daily (ideally after each wash) and massage them back into shape. Give them a springtime manicure and layer on a colourful varnish.

TIP
6

Prep your feet

They've been stuffed into tight boots and shoes for months... Time for a good airing! But don't even think about donning your sandals without pedicuring them back into shape. Give your toenails a clip, soak your feet in a bowl of warm water and gently rub them down with a pumice stone - heels in particular. Follow with a moisturiser for super-soft feet!

TIP
6

Care for your cleavage

Whether we're skimpy top fans or not, our cleavage still deserves attention. Cleavage skin is really fragile and out on show during summer - applying an SPF is essential. To keep its skin toned and firm, avoid steaming hot baths/showers and stick to warm water. And moisturise!

TIP
6

Deal with dimply skin

Now's the time to attack cellulite...

For orange peel-free skin, apply a slimming cream to any affected zones. Go for cellulite-zapping active ingredients: caffeine, grapeseed, white tea, red vine, guarana...

Boost your circulation, get rid of toxins and help active ingredients to penetrate by kneading in your cream (think 'bread dough' if you've never tried this technique!).

TIP
6

Preen your pins

We're the first to admit that hairy legs aren't a wintertime priority. But the days are getting longer and so are our hairs! Time to get our legs sleek, shiny and summer skirt-ready. Waxing, shaving, hair removal creams - the choice is there. If you're opting for permanent hair removal, book your appointment ASAP - your skin will need time to recover before being exposed to the sun!

TIP
6

Self-tan your way to a bronzed glow

Lily white skin?

Fake it! Begin to apply a self-tanner to your legs, arms and face for a sun-kissed look without exposing your body to harmful rays.

The golden rule?

Scrub beforehand to avoid nasty streaks! And follow with a moisturiser for a uniform colour.
