Priority to natural ingredients
L'Oréal Paris prefers renewable, natural and sustainable raw materials.
We draw on over 25 years of expertise in sustainable innovation, green chemistry and biotechnology to deliver a new model of research and innovation, which we call “green science”. In 2020, we already had 11,538 beneficiaries supported through the sustainable sourcing programs for raw materials. By 2030, 100% of our renewable and mineral raw materials will be sustainably sourced and 95% of our ingredients will be of renewable origin or derived from abundant minerals.
Green science allows us to create alternatives to petrochemical ingredients and discover new cosmetic benefits without compromising quality or safety.
By 2030, 100% of our biobased ingredients will be sustainably sourced.
By 2025, 100% of our plastic packaging will be recyclable, reusable and compostable
We massively increased the share of recycled and recyclable materials. Elvive range bottles are already 100% recycled plastic*. Of course, we encourage responsible innovation. As an example, in collaboration with our partner Paboco, we have succeeded in developing a bottle made of bio-sourced and recyclable plant fibers. At the same time, we lighten packaging, offer refillable solutions and develop manufacturing processes that use less energy and are less harmful to the environment.
*Global initiative, to be localized soon.
By 2030, 100% of our packaging will be more virtuous:
100% of our glass jars will be lightened, using recycled glass.
100% of our carboard boxes will be sourced from sustainable forests.

Up to 97% of biodegrability for our new generation of masks and conditioners
To reduce our environmental impact, we are improving the biodegradability of our formulas and reducing our water footprint. Among the products launched in 2019, Elvive Full Resist Power Mask is already 97% biodegradable and Men Expert Shaving Barber Club 94%.
And we go further. Half of the brand's carbon footprint is related to the use of water and its heating for rinsing products. To address a more conscious use of water during use phase and help reduce the time needed in the shower, we develop formulas that need less water to be rinsed (e.g. More than Shampoo), as well as new beauty routines that require less rinsing steps (two-in-one products or non-rinse haircare treatments such as Dream Lengths Management).

11 carbon neutral factories and 10 carbon neutral distribution centers by 2030
Manufacturing on a large scale requires a complete rethink of processes to preserve a cleaner, greener planet. Between 2005 and 2020, our factories and distribution centres have already reduced CO2 emissions by 82%, water consumption by 44%, and waste generation by 35%. More than ever, we keep promoting carbon reduction initiatives throughout our manufacturing processes. Today, the Elvive range is produced in a carbon-neutral factory that uses 100% renewable energy. The plant is powered by recycling local forest residues.

100%
By 2025, all of our sites will have achieved carbon neutrality by improving energy efficiency and using 100% renewable energy.
Empowering women around the world
As women are the primary victims of climate change, L'Oréal Paris will invest €10 million in a series of 6 carbon projects whose beneficiaries are communities of women around the world. Along with financial support, L’Oréal Paris will also develop specific programs that encourage a greater inclusion of women in leadership of these projects. In Honduras for example, where local indigenous communities protect and restore mangroves, the brand will support a project managed by a cooperative of women. They will receive support through courses on leadership, financial independence, and women’s health.
Faced with the urgency of climate change, we must react with efficiency and a great sense of innovation. L'Oréal Paris is 100% committed to meeting these new challenges. We are all worth it.
